MAJOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS UNDER GOVERNOR MONDAY OKPEBHOLO
Transforming Urban, Regional and Rural Connectivity Across Edo State
The administration of His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo, is undertaking a massive infrastructure drive to ease traffic, tackle flooding, and link communities across Edo State. Below is an updated list of ongoing and approved projects:
- MAJOR URBAN & INTER-CITY ROADS
Focus: Benin City traffic flow, flooding, and connectivity to expressways
Flyovers & Junction Upgrades
- Ramat Park Flyover & Axis : Ikpoba Hill
- Oregbeni Flyover & Ikpoba Hill : Inspection and fabrication work ongoing, with erosion control at Ikpoba Hill
- Adesuwa–Sapele Road Flyover Intersection : Sapele Road. Major flyover construction actively underway to ease gridlock
- Lucky Way Junction : Aduwawa
- Upper Mission Extension Road : Aduwawa junction area
Road Expansion, Drainage & Township Networks
- Sapele Road Project : Full upgrade with surface drains + underground canals to tackle flooding
- Old Sapele Road Network : Rehabilitation linking Agip, Ohogbohi, and Ogheghe communities via Rawtech Nigeria Limited
- Ogheghe Road : Project situated off Sapele Road under BRASS Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited
- Upper Airport Road Project : Ongoing upgrade connecting multiple communities toward Upper Ekenwan Road to boost trade and traffic flow
- Evbuotubu Road
- Charismatic (Church) Road : 1.4-kilometer stretch off Ekenwan Road handled by Place of Peace Investment Limited
- Ekenwan Barracks Road : Ekenwan axis
- Ekenwan Barracks–Gelegele Road : Ongoing construction works progressing within the area
- Temboga Road (Phase 2) : Aduwawa axis
- Utteh Road: Benin City
- Okhun Road Project : Approval for a ∼7 km road connecting Ugbowo-Lagos Expressway to Upper Siluko Road
- Okhun Junction / Upper Siluko Road: Scheduled reconstruction of failed sections captured in the 2026 budget
- Obadan Junction Road: Benin–Auchi Expressway
- Egor Township Roads : Uselu, Useh, Evbareke – Egor LGA
- Oredo Urban Network: Ebo Street, Ore-Oghene Road + connecting inner routes – Oredo LGA
- Ekosodin Road Network: Approved for immediate construction covering Newton Road, Ehigeagba Street, Osanidowonyi Street, Boundary Street, and Edo Street to relieve Ugbowo and Ekosodin communities
- Ologbo Road : Ongoing community road and water channel rehabilitation in the agrarian community of Ologbo
- Amufi Community Roads : Ongoing infrastructure and road upgrades
- Edo State Polytechnic, Usen : Inauguration of 4.8 km of newly executed internal roads
- REGIONAL & RURAL CONNECTIVITY PROJECTS Focus: Linking communities + farm-to-market corridors
Esan Zone
- Amedokhian–Iruele–Awo Road: Esan North-East LGA. Part of Phase 2 targeting over 15 communities in Edo Central
- Unewa–Ohe–Uzea–Awo Road: Esan North-East & Esan Central LGAs. 26km corridor linking 15+ communities and the area’s railway station
- Multi-Community Uromi Road Network: 36-kilometre project linking Onewa, Udomi, Ibhiolulu, Afada, Idumoza, Eko, Uwaya, and Ewora roads, extending toward Uwessan
- Uromi–Agbede Link Road : Connects Uromi (Esan North-East) to Agbede. 3.5km with 6 community interconnected roads in Ughieda, South Ibie
- Illeh–Akho–Irrua Road : 2.3km link road
- Ukhun Tiper Garage Road
- Ukpenu–Emuhi–Ugiamen–Ehor Road
- 9.3km Usenu–Ile-Ukhu / Illeh–Ukhun Road
- Ologua Road : Located in Ohordua Ward 4, Esan South East LGA
- 26-kilometer multi-phase intra-road project : Spanning Esan Central and Esan North-East to connect over 15 rural communities and link to the Awo railway station
Owan & North-East Corridor
- Abia–Iruekpen–Ozalla–Sabongida-Ora–Afuze : Massive 48.3-kilometer multi-phase road and drainage project spanning Owan West, Owan East, and Esan West
- Iruekpen–Ozalla–Sabo Route: Approved to link Esan and Owan communities, facilitating farm produce transport
- Iruekpen via Ozalla to Eme-Ora & Auchi : Full reconstruction to replace failed and deteriorated segments
- Iruekpen–Ozalla–Uhonmora–Sabongida Ora–Ojavou: Strategic alignment targeting remote community integration
- Uzeba–Uruwe & Uruwe–Otuo : Approved construction structured in phases across Owan West
- Avbiosi–Edimule & Akpohu Roads : Incorporated into the regional infrastructure development plan
South-East Agricultural Corridor
- Benin–Abraka Road: Orhionmwon LGA. Rehabilitation of agricultural corridor
Uhunmwode & Other Key Links
- Eguaholor–Iguomon–Uvbenisi–Oza Road : 14-kilometre project with a spur to Ohe Community. Links multiple agrarian communities across Uhunmwode and neighboring Orhionmwon LGA
- Additional Uhunmwode Links : Eguaholor, Iguomon, Uvbenisi, Oza, Ohe, Isi, Ekenisi, and Iguomo 14KM connecting roads
. Auchi–Igarra–Ibillo Federal Highway
. Ikiran–Oke–Ikakhumoh Road - Oluku–Sobe Roadb: Federal approval and award secured for dualisation of this critical route
These projects reflect the Okpebholo administration’s commitment to decongesting Benin City, ending perennial flooding, and opening up rural areas for commerce, agriculture, and improved livelihoods.
