BENIN CITY – The Federal Government has commended the Managing Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu, for her ingenuity and prudent management of available resources.
The government noted that her deployment of limited resources has transformed UBTH into a center that delivers improved clinical services to patients in need.
The commendation highlights the hospital’s turnaround under Prof. Ize-Iyamu’s leadership, with focus on maximizing what is available to enhance service delivery and patient care.
The Permanent Secretary of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom mni, represented by the Medical Director, National Orthopedic Hospital, Benin, Dr. Philip Ugbodaga made the commendation while unveiling some projects initiated by the Chief Medical Director, UBTH, Prof. Ize-Iyamu to mark one year in office.
Daju said having gone round to see the projects executed within her one year in office , said the MD deserves some commendations because she knows the challenges usually being faced by chief executives.
The MD of the University of Benin Teaching hospital, Prof. Ize-Iyamu has earlier told the visitors that the hospital have been in existence for 50 years, adding many of its infrastructures and facilities were in a deplorable situation hence the intervention to upgrade them came up quickly.
Among the unveiled facilities is a modern police position, an expanded Accident and Emergency Waiting area, Sophisticated Mortuary Complex, Multi-faith centre and Specialized Renal Premium Ward.
In other to elevate the institution’s operational standard they established gas plant, generic library and lounge.
Also provided were state-of-the-art 160-slice CT Scan facility housed within radiology and a dedicated Specialist Investigation Unit.
Others at the unveiling were Management of the hospital and health sector stakeholders.
