‎The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment, political inclusion and leadership development.
‎
‎The government gave the assurance of its readiness to partner with stakeholders and women-focused organisations to advance the welfare and interests of women and girls across the state.
‎
‎
‎The Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Eugenia Abdallah, gave the assurance when she received a delegation of Great CEOs and Voters in Politics, Edo State, led by its Coordinator and Convener, Hon. Mrs. Evelyn Inneh, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry.
‎
‎Abdallah acknowledged the significant contributions of women to political development, observing that women are often deeply committed to causes they believe in, demonstrating their convictions through active participation in political campaigns, voting and other forms of civic engagement.
‎
‎She, however, identified the lack of adequate appreciation for women’s contributions as a major concern, stressing that beyond personal recognition or rewards, women deserve to enjoy the dividends of democracy through improved living conditions and access to essential social amenities in their communities.
‎
‎According to her, the provision of good roads, clean water, electricity and other basic infrastructure represents an important way of appreciating the sacrifices and contributions of citizens, particularly women who actively participate in the political process.
‎
‎The Commissioner assured the delegation that the Ministry remains open to all women, children and girls in Edo State, describing it as a platform through which emerging female leaders, particularly younger women, can receive encouragement and support to realise their aspirations.
‎
‎She welcomed partnerships with organisations and stakeholders committed to women’s advancement, empowerment and community development, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in building a society where women have greater opportunities to contribute to governance and decision-making.
‎
‎Abdallah also called for sustained support for the vision and developmental agenda of Governor Monday Okpebholo, noting that the administration’s ongoing reforms, infrastructural projects and other development initiatives reflect its commitment to the progress of the state. She urged stakeholders to support the completion of ongoing projects and sustain the momentum of development across Edo State.
‎
‎Earlier, the Coordinator and Convener of Great CEOs and Voters in Politics, Edo State, Hon. Mrs. Evelyn Inneh, said the delegation visited the Ministry to express its appreciation to the Commissioner for her commitment and contributions to the advancement of women and the girl child.
‎
‎Inneh commended Abdallah for what she described as her exceptional performance in office, noting that her approach to issues affecting women and girls distinguished her from previous occupants of the office.
‎
‎She offered prayers for God’s continued guidance, wisdom and strength for the Commissioner to accomplish more in service to women and the people of Edo State.
‎
‎The delegation also expressed optimism about the future of women’s political participation in Edo State, stating its desire to see more women occupy political positions and take up leadership responsibilities at various levels of governance.
