Prince Braimoh Musa, an Edo North senatorial aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, has said the Senate should be a place for active legislative work, not a retirement place.
Musa made the remarks in Abuja on Thursday while submitting his nomination form at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
He said he was running to represent “the good, wonderful and dynamic people” of Edo North Senatorial District, who he said had endured poor representation despite their resilience.
“The Senate is not a place for retirement. It is a place for active participation, for lawmaking, for presenting bills and moving motions, and for oversight functions,” Musa said.
“No one can ascribe himself to be a political juggernaut without his people. As it is ascribed to him a political juggernaut, I can tell you, yours sincerely is part of why you ascribed that title to him. The best place to retire him to is his village, at the right age. By the grace of God, I have come today to submit my form for the Senate to assist in retiring him, so that as his younger brother, I should be able to take care of my elder brother in retirement.”
The ADC aspirant, who hails from the Uzairue clan in Etsako West LGA, said he would bring a different approach focused on laws that directly impact the people and strengthen the Nigerian economy. He added that while constituency projects are not primarily for lawmakers, an effective senator can attract projects to the district via lobbying.
“For my people, because they have suffered for too long,” he said. “The man there that you called a political juggernaut, you can go to the six local governments in the senatorial district. There is no impactful project he has been able to bring there for our people, other than leveraging on the things he did while he was governor. And he is leveraging on those things as though he spent his own money, whereas it is taxpayer money.”
Musa is not new to Edo North politics, having been active in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in 2007, and then ACN and later APC before joining NDC and now ADC.
He is contesting for the seat currently held by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who is also from Uzairue.
The National Assembly elections are scheduled for January 2027.
