Obaseki Eases Out Otaru of Auchi’s daughter, Otse , as Commissioner

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has carried out a minor rejig of his cabinet, resulting in the easing out of the state commissioner of budget and economic planning, Princess Otse Momoh Omorogbe.

Princess Otse Omorogbe, who is married to a Benin Person, is the daughter of the highly revered Otaru of the Auchi kingdom, HRH Alhaji H. A. Momoh, she represented Etsako West in the state cabinet.

Although there is no official reason for the dropping of Princess Otse but highly placed sources familiar with the workings of government attributed her “sudden departure” from the cabinet to her decision to seek an elective office in 2023.

She is the PDP ticket holder for the Edo state House of Assembly, Etsako West Constituency 1 of the Obaseki/Shaibu faction of the party.

Presently, the Chief Dan Orbih faction of the party is having the upper hand, following the recognition accorded its candidates by the INEC, the two rival factions would still have to tarry a while for the ruling of the apex court on the matter to determine the ultimate winner

The appointment of Princess Otse into the cabinet came as a “Greek gift” during the height of the face-off between Gov Obaseki and his political godfather, Comrade Adams Oshiomole.

In fact, many believed then that her inclusion was a sort of a grand design by the Obaseki administration to woo and secure the support of her father, the Otaru, in the godson-godfather dispute.

Despite the PDP’s rapprochement with the Otaru, banking on his support for votes in the Edo 2020 guber poll, the result favoured the APC which not only retained its stranglehold on the area but also reaffirmed its dominance of Etsako politics. Besides, the erstwhile comrade governor hails from Etsako and also enjoys almost cult followership among the people
