LG Election: Chairmen elect will be declared at ESIEC office in Benin

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), has said that winners of the chairmanship election at the council poll scheduled for Saturday will be formally declared at the commission’s headquarters in Benin.

The local government elections will hold across the 4,519 polling units in the 192 wards in the state on September 2.

The Chairman of the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC), Justice James Oyomire (rtd) disclosed this to newsmen during a media briefing in Benin City, Edo state.

According to the chairman, the ward results and winners who must have secured the majority votes will be declared at the wards headquarters.

While that of the chairmanship of the LGA will be formally announced at the commission’s headquarters in Benin haven’t meet the required criteria of securing of the majority of votes across the 2/3 of the wards in the local government.

The electoral body, further said the election is to elect people into the 18 Chairmanship and the Vice Chairman seats in the 18 Local Council Areas and into the 192 Councillorship seats for the 192 Wards in Edo State.

Oyomire said to ensure adequate security before, during and after the election, the Commission has engaged all the relevant security agencies in the State.

“We are happy to report that all the security architecture in Edo State have been activated and mobilized to ensure the safety of citizens, election personnel and materials.

He added that adequate training has also been given to all election officers and personnel in readiness for the election .

“Generally speaking, the situation in Edo State is calm as far as our preparations are concerned. Voters’ enthusiasm is high and so too is our determination to conduct credible elections. “Oyomire said.
