Edo University Teaching Hospital Recruits consultants, others

The management of the Edo State Teaching Hospital, Auchi, Etsako West, formerly Auchi Central Hospital, has embarked on the massive recruitment of medical personnel to strengthen its ability to deliver quality medical services to the people.

Professor Emmanuel Aluyor, the Vice Chancellor of the institution made this revelation in Auchi at the flag-off ceremony of the free medical services offered by the hospital to members of the public.

An immensely happy Prof Aluyor said the hospital management is determined to provide world-class medical services and as a result, the management will have to engage the full complement of medical professionals in that regard.

He went on to reveal that the hospital has engaged the services of 26 full-time consultants and 25 honorary staff in such areas as pathology, pharmacology, obstetrics, and gynecology as well as other related fields.

Similarly, he described the quality of the equipment installed in the teaching hospital as top-notch, stating it will not only enhance the hospital’s functionality but also the capability of the medical personnel to deliver top-range healthcare to the public.

The free medical outreach was flagged-off by Hon Phillip Shaibu, the deputy governor of the state. He was represented at the occasion by Mrs. Josephine Eshemohai Ozor, a Director in the state Ministry of Finance and Budget.

Hon Shaibu in his speech, paid glowing tributes to his principal, Mr. Goodwin Obaseki, for giving his assent to the proposal to upgrade and convert the former Central Hospital, Auchi, from an all-purpose hospital to a specialist teaching hospital and advised members of the public who are the direct beneficiaries of its services to make judicious use of it. He also enjoined them to take advantage of the free medical outreach by the hospital management to ascertain their health status.

In his speech at the flag-off ceremony, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Prof Sylvester Idogu, commended the state government for making the dream of the hospital upgrade a reality, stating further that the doors of the hospital will remain open to members of the public on a 24-hour basis and also urged the community leaders to see the facility as theirs by taking ownership of it

In his goodwill message, the Otaru of the Auchi sacred kingdom, HRH Alhaji H. A. Momoh, Ikelebe III, appealed to the Auchi citizens, in particular, and the entire Edo North citizens, in general, to jealously guard the facilities in the hospital to ensure it serves the purpose for which it was meant.

The highly revered monarch also enjoined both the medical and support staff of the hospital to display a high level of commitment as well as the right attitude in the discharge of their duty

Among the dignitaries at the flag-off ceremony were representatives of the state commissioner of education as well as those of the Otaru of Igarra and Weppa-Wanno respectively.
