EBS Resurgence: Edo NLC Endorses Alenkhe’s Leadership
BENIN CITY – The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC has passed a vote of confidence on the Acting Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Comrade Festus Alenkhe citing significant improvements in the station since his appointment.
The NLC, in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Bernard Joman Eguakhide, in Benin City, said that Alenkhe’s leadership had brought renewed vibrancy to EBS, particularly in news dissemination, current affairs, cultural programming and live broadcasting.
The labour body said the Acting Managing Director, who has worked with EBS for more than two decades, had introduced changes that had strengthened the station’s connection with the people of Edo State.
According to the NLC, EBS now runs live news bulletins with reporters providing reports from Lagos, Abuja and different parts of Edo State, thereby giving wider visibility to government projects, policies, activities and programmes.
It also cited the station’s live coverage of the funeral of the late Catholic Archbishop of Benin, Most Rev. Augustine Obiora Akubeze, and the live transmission of the WAFU B football tournament final in Burkina Faso as notable developments under Alenkhe’s leadership.
The NLC said the developments had demonstrated the capacity of EBS to operate beyond traditional state broadcasting and respond to the demands of the digital information era.
The council commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for the choice of Alenkhe to head EBS, saying that his experience as a journalist and his long service in EBS had positioned him to contribute to the station’s development.
It expressed confidence that Alenkhe would further reposition EBS and place the station on the global broadcasting map.
The NLC consequently affirmed its “vote of implicit confidence” in Alenkhe’s administration and expressed its support for the continuation of the initiatives which it said, had brought renewed activity to the station.
