Edo 24: APC to prune governorship aspirants ahead of primaries

By DADA AYOKHAI

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State is ready to prune down the unmanageable number of governorship aspirants on the platform of the party ahead of the guber primary slated for February 17.

The idea is to ultimately give the opposition party a healthy start, reduce tension, and also slash the number of guber aspirants in the party to a manageable level

The decision is the consequence of a tripartite meeting between the guber aspirants, the SWC of the party, and APC party leaders drawn across the senatorial districts of the state.

Borderline News 24 gathered from its usually reliable source within the party that the decision became imperative given the unwieldy number of guber aspirants and the rancorous proportions the campaign has taken in recent times.

Presently, about 26 aspirants are eyeing the coveted ticket at the scheduled primary on February 17 .

Sen. Adams Oshiomole, a former governor of the state, the state APC leader, and also a former APC national chairman, was present at the closed-door meeting.

At the end of the meeting, a five-man committee was reportedly set up by leaders of the party with the responsibility of interfacing with the 26 aspirants and pruning the number to a reasonable and manageable number.
