Ayogwiri Community embarks on N10 Million drive to equip Vigilante

By DADA AYOKHAI

One of the fastest-growing communities in the Uzairue clan, Ayogwiri, has concluded plans to launch a N10m security endowment fund to enable it to rejig its local vigilante outfit to combat the rising cases of insecurity.

This decision may have been prompted by recent attacks on Ikhabigbo, a neighboring community by the dreaded Fulani herdsmen, leading to the loss of lives, properties, and the dislocation of the inhabitants.

The “deadly” herdsmen attack on Ikhabigbo also led to the kidnap of a Catholic priest and some members of the village vigilante by the marauders

President-General of Ayogwiri Osiregbembe Union, AOU, Mr. Mike Inoyapeh is hopeful the N10m target is achievable, adding the community is worried about the rate the herdsmen and insurgents have “invaded” the locality, stressing the Union cannot afford to fold its arms and not do something to protect its citizens, hence the proactive steps it has taken to ensure the local vigilante outfit is well funded and equipped to ward off any threat

Assuring that funds raised during the launch would be used judiciously for the procurement of security-related items such as uniforms, vehicles, gadgets, and others for the use of the local vigilante outfit, which Mr.Inoyapeh rated as grossly under-equipped.

He also canvassed for donations from well-meaning Ayogwiri citizens, saying every kobo contributed for the purpose would go a long way to secure their ancestral land from those who have little or no respect for human lives.

To aid donations and seamless interactions on the operations of the security endowment fund, he said the Union created a Whatsapp platform and the reception has so far been impressive.
