The Edo state deputy governor, Comrade Philip shaibu has lost his constituency, Etsako west 2 at the state house of Assembly elections to the opposition party, All progressive congress (APC).
In the results announced by the INEC returning officer, Dr Festus Edosa of the university of Benin, the APC candidates, Gani Akokhia emerges winner of the election having scored the highest votes of 11,751, while Dr Felix Iyalomhe of the PDP came second with 7, 432 votes.
Concidentally, Etsako west 2 which comprises of Uzairue clan and south ibie is where the state deputy governor Comrade Philip shaibu and Adams oshiomole hails from.
The declaration which was made in Auchi, the headquarters of Etsako West local government was done amidst tight security provided by the police, Nigeria Army and laced with protest from deputy governor and the PDP candidate, Dr Iyalomhe who claimed he won the election.
The deputy governor grievances was that the constituency collation center which is usually jattu, where he hails from was moved to Auchi which he said is against the rules of the election.
According to unofficial complaints from INEC and the APC and other party involved in the election election, the venue of the collation was moved to Auchi, the headquarters of the local government for security reasons.
It was alleged said that Shaibu is taking advantage of being deputy governor and also coming from
jattu to take over the arena with thugs and state local vigilantes so as to have his candidate declared winner.
In the declared results, the APC candidate won four of the five wards that made up the constituency.
The only ward claimed to have being won by the PDP was jattu where Shaibu hails from.
The jattu result has over voting figures which out numbered the four wards which led to cancellation by the election umpire INEC.
One of the cases in point was the Etsako ward 11, unit 3, Oyagha Primary school, with 1075 registered voters and 217 voters were accredited for the election according to BVAA and voted but the PDP got 981votes
