Auchi Central Hospital, Auchi, Etsako West, which was recently upgraded to the status of a teaching hospital and affiliated with the Edo State University, Uzairue is set to embark on free medical services to the indigenes of the Edo North senatorial district.

The free medical services offered by the hospital management as part of its corporate social responsibility, CSR, to the people will be flagged off on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, by the deputy governor of Edo State, Hon Phillip Shaibu

This is the first CSR by the hospital, after her change of status to a Teaching Hospital of the Edo state university Uzairue by the Edo state government.

Insider sources privy to the design programme disclosed that a full range of professional medical services will be put on the doorstep of the patients, adding it includes physical examinations, routine investigations, tests for urine, blood, sugar and glucose, counseling, free drugs and minor surgeries.

Expectedly, the hospital management has made provisions for the large number of patients across the senatorial district who might likely descend on it’s already stretched facilities seeking relief from various ailments.

Hitherto, the Irrua Specialist Hospital, used to serve as the nearest reference centre for those suffering serious ailments that require specialist care.

The upgrading of the Auchi Central Hospital has brought medical succour to the indigenes of Edo North. In the opinion of some of those who used to travel all the way to Irrua for specialist care, the Auchi teaching hospital, as a centre of medical excellence, will bring a fitting end to the rush for “medical tourism” outside of the district.

All in all, the free medical outreach is a welcome gesture by the hospital management. Such a move will not only reposition the hospital as a friendly entity but also sell its full range of services to the potential end users within and outside of its catchment area
