The embattled Edo State deputy governor, Hon. Philip Shaibu is back in the state after his annual vacation outside the shore of the country.
He was said to have spent his annual vacation in the United States of America where he joined other notable Edo North citizens who graced the 15th convention of the Afenmai World Congress held in the last week of July
While on vacation, his lawyers filed an exparte motion at the Federal High Court in Abuja to restrain the governor as well as the state assembly from initiating any move to impeach him.
The deputy governor’s resort to a restraining court order is said to have been a preemptive action to scuttle the alleged plot by his principal, Gov. Obaseki to use the state assembly to impeach him
There has been no love lost between the two political gladiators who were hitherto inseparable like Siamese twins until they fell apart
Barely hours after his arrival, Hon. Shaibu was visible on the social circuit in the state
On Sunday, he made a brief appearance at the Thanksgiving service to mark 32 years of the creation of Edo State
The deputy governor in an interview said that he remains loyal to the governor but that does not in anyway affects his ambition which he said is personal.
Borderline News24 noticed that the governor did not accord his deputy the usual warm welcome and the protocol arrangements was not structured to accommodate the deputy governor.
On leaving the venue, Shaibu drove straight to the venue of the formal unveiling of the privately owned online television broadcast outfit founded by Mr. Best Mbiere, a former ITV Benin staff.
The launch attracted notable Edo citizens including the former comrade governor and now the senator representing the Edo North senatorial district in the national assembly, Comrade Adams Oshiomole
Others who were at the event included the Edo State chairman of the APC, Col. David Imuse, Hon. Ogbeide Ihama, former Sen. Mathew Matthew Urhoghide decamped from the PDP not too long ago, as well as other notable APC stalwarts in a the state.
Hon. Shaibu’s presence at the ceremony caused some stir among the guests who graced the unveiling.
There was even a greater stir when he was given a chance to make some remarks. A confident Hon. Shaibu left many at the event speechless when he looked straight into the eyes of Comrade Oshiomole, also a former APC national chairman, and pointedly referred to him as” my father and mentor”
The romance between Hon. Shaibu and his erstwhile political godfather, Comrade Oshiomole is the sour grape that has widened the gulf between Shuaib and his principal, Gov. Obaseki.
Since Shaibu made that sneaky appearance at the Abuja inauguration party of Sen. Oshiomole, he entered straight into the bad book of Gov. Obaseki who viewed his indiscretion as a sign of disloyalty and has been busy trying to scuttle whatever ambition the former may have of succeeding him as governor in 2024
