The parish priest of St Francis Catholic Church, Benîn, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obinyan has formally indicated interest in the Edo State 2024 governorship race

Rev. Obinyan made the declaration at the secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benîn

Rev obiyan say he has decided to listen to the support group who cut across party lines who has consistently mounted pressure on him to declare interest in the race.

The Rev father said he is yet to decide on the party platform he intends to realize his ambition,.

He was accompanied to the nuj secretariat by hordes of youths and supporters

He said: “I have received lots of calls from Edo people and well meaning Nigerians urging me to join the race. After extensive consultations, I am happy to tell you that I have given the nod.

“I have considered it and I am ready to serve. I am trained and equipped to serve and not to be served. So help me God.”

A youth leader, Mr. Jude Aigbona said that the clarion call on the clergyman to join the race was due to the fact that professional politicians and technocrats, who have at one time or the other piloted the affairs of the state, have all woefully failed to deliver.

A member of the mobilization committee, Aigbona added: “As a member of the mobilization team which mounted pressure on him to contest, I want to assure you that he’ll reshape Edo State.

“Technocrats and politicians have all failed us. We should test a man of God. I want to tell Edo youths that this is a man who will make a difference to the youths. He is credible.”
