The surprise appearance of Edo state deputy governor,Comrade Philip Shaibu at the reception party for the newly sworn-in members of the National Assembly from the Edo North district has left tongues wagging as to what exactly was his mission.
The reception party was organized by the Edo North APC National Assembly Caucus to celebrate the formal inauguration of the 10th Assembly.
They were said to have organized the grand reception party in honour of the former comrade governor, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomole. The former APC national chairman, now a Senator, was among the newly sworn-in members alongside their House of Reps counterparts
Given the rancorous political relationship between the deputy governor and his erstwhile political godfather, Comrade Oshiomole, often exerceberated by threats and counter threats by both sides, Comrade Shaibu is the least expected guest at such an occasion
To even think that he did not only make a surprise appearance at the event, but also sat beside his eternal political enemy, is now the talk of the town.
The political relationship between the two strained beyond rescue as far back as late 2019 when Comrade Oshiomole successfully denied Obaseki and Shaibu the APC ticket to seek re-election
Since then, both political foes have engaged in several battles, either real or by proxy, to outwit each other.
Thus, when pictures of the appearance of the deputy governor went viral, most of those who saw it expressed shock and disbelief
Speculations are rife that the deputy governor might be plotting his way back to where he began his political career and also enjoyed a meteoric rise to political stardom
