Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, will on October 5, 2026, begin a tour of the six Local Government Areas of Edo North Senatorial District as part of the continuation of his statewide LGA and ward tour to galvanize support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and National Assembly members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the itinerary, the political tour will start in the two Owan Local Government Areas, move to Akoko-Edo, and end in the three Etsako Local Government Areas.
Edo North has, since the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC), remained a stronghold of the party in the state, From 2015 to 2023, the APC consistently produced the National Assembly members from the district
Probably as a reward, the district has also produced the ministerial nominee for the state for almost eight years out of the party’s nearly 12 years in power at the federal level.
.
However, the scenario has been different at the state level, where the party’s presidential candidates – from Muhammadu Buhari to Bola Tinubu – have been unable to win Edo State.
In the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu, then candidate of the APC, came third in the state behind Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to political pundits, the situation may not be different in the 2027 elections, considering that no significant federal project or achievement has been recorded in the state in the last three years. In spite of this scenario, Governor Okpebholo has promised the President 2.5 million votes from the state.
During the tour, Governor Okpebholo is expected to reel out promises ahead of the elections and similarly take a swipe at President Tinubu’s opponents.
