Mixed reactions have continued to trail the courtesy visit by the two former Edo North senators, Sen. Yisa Braimoh and Sen. Victor Oyofo, to the leader of the House of Representatives, Prof. Julius Ihonbvere
Recently, news emanated that the two senators, both of the PDP , visited Prof. Ihonbvere, who belongs to the opposition in the state, APC and is also the leader of the House of Representatives .
Sen. Braimoh and Oyofo represented the Edo North district in the Senate at different times on the PDP platform.
The visit caused a major political stir in the Edo North district as well as elicited mixed reactions from various camps, depending on political affiliations as to the propriety or otherwise of the visit
Even more intriguing, the two elderly politicians at the center of the storm kept the visit under wrap leading to
speculations in some quarters that the two senators may defect to the APC.
However, reports from the office of Prof. Ihonbvere said the visit was a merely a solidarity visit .
Prof. Ihonbvere, a second-term member of the Green Chamber, represents the Owan federal constituency of Edo north district on the platform of the APC .
Prof Ihonvere was saddled with the task of being the leader of the House by his colleagues during the inauguration of the chamber.
The two senator’s visit to Ihonvere is regarded in some quarters as a way to celebrate a kinsman irrespective of party affiliations.
Recall that the state chapter of the PDP is embroiled in internal strife and crisis.
While the ghost of the division between the old and new PDP members is yet to be buried, the recent face-off between the governor and his deputy has further polarised the PDP in Edo State
Both men, however, command considerable followership and also enjoy immense clout within and outside the party
Their defection, if turns out to be true, will significantly eat into the support base of the PDP in both Edo North and Edo State in general
