Former Edo State Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has ruled out the possibility of Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa contesting the governorship election in 2028.
Oshiomhole stated this while speaking at the APC rally in Akoko-Edo, where he insisted that Governor Monday Okpebholo must be allowed to seek a second term without internal challenge from his deputy.
”This governor, by the special grace of God, will be re-elected in 2028 and his deputy cannot challenge him not to seek re-election,” he said.
The Senator said Idahosa would not tow the path of disloyalty, citing the case of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who fell out with his boss, former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
He recalled the political crisis between Obasanjo and Atiku between 1999 and 2007, describing Atiku’s decision to oppose Obasanjo’s second term bid as betrayal.
He said: “I have never seen where a deputy governor decides to contest election against his governor, whether in Nigeria or in America. But look at what Atiku did. Obasanjo, as a sitting President, made Atiku his vice, but four years later, Atiku said Obasanjo should not do second term.”
Oshiomhole attributed Atiku’s repeated failures at the presidential polls to the curse of disloyalty.
”That is where God placed a curse on him: ‘He shall ever be a candidate but he shall never win. He who betrays his father can never grow to become the head of the house. That’s the character called Atiku,” Oshiomhole said.
