Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, says the ongoing construction of the ultra-modern market in Jattu, Etsako West LGA, is a gesture of appreciation to residents for supporting his administration, the All Progressives Congress, APC, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Governor stated this during an inspection tour of the project on his way to Auchi, headquarters of Etsako West, for the formal flag-off of the Edo North rally ahead of the local government elections.
He was accompanied by the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; former Governor and Senator representing Edo North, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole; Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, and other officials.
Governor Okpebholo described the market as part of his administration’s commitment to infrastructure that will enhance trade and commerce across the state.
He added that all ongoing development projects would determine the level of support his administration receives in the 2027 general election.
On his target of securing 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Edo, the Governor said it would be achieved through the impact of government projects on the people.
“People wonder how we will get the 2.5 million votes, but they forget that this government is doing a lot for Edo people. Our votes will come from the numerous projects we have embarked upon for the benefit of our people,” he said.
He dismissed criticism of the target, stating that residents understand the administration’s focus and are already supporting it.
Also speaking, Senator Adams Oshiomhole commended Governor Okpebholo for reconstructing the over 200-year-old Jattu Market, describing it as central to the history and economic life of Edo North.
Oshiomhole said Jattu Market has remained a major trading hub where people from different communities exchange goods and services.
