The Labour Party member representing the Egor/Ikpoba Okhia federal constituency in Edo State, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi floored his two major challengers at the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin

The Tribunal unanimously dismissed the petition filed against the February 25 election which produced Hon. Omoruyi as the winner

Both the PDP and the APC candidates, Hon. Osamede Okhuaroba and Hon. Crosby Osadolor Eribo had approached the Tribunal seeking to upturn the election of the LP candidate on the grounds of irregularities and other malpractices

In a unanimous ruling delivered yesterday, in Benin, the capital of Edo State, by the chairman of the three-member Tribunal, Hon. Justice A. O. Chijioke, the Tribunal struck out the two petitions for ” lacking in merit and frivolous”

The Tribunal also returned Hon. Omoruyi as duly elected

Other members of the Tribunal are Hon. Justice A. E. Akeredolu and Hon. Justice Uthman El-Mainari.

The Tribunal said it based its decision on the failure of the petitioners to prove any of the grounds they raised in their petitions and, therefore, dismissed the entire petition for “lack of merit”

Hon. Omoruyi was thrilled by the verdict of the Tribunal.

Speaking to supporters and newsmen at the venue of the Tribunal, Hon. Omoruyi said the Tribunal victory belonged to the people and all those who share in the common vision and also believed in the cause

He also reaffirmed his commitment towards serving the people, noting the Tribunal victory was the tonic he needed to do so

He added, “This victory though sweet, belongs to all of us, especially those who invested their faith and trust in the shared mission to salvage and rescue the society and also those who supported and stood with us through thick and thin”.

While thanking the LP supporters for their unwavering support, Hon. Omoruyi posited that the new chapter which is about to resume demands dedication and utmost enthusiasm to make it actionable and realizable
