The Chief Judge of Edo State, Hon. Justice D.I. Okungbowo has announced that the Annual Vacation of the High Court of Justice of Edo State will commence on Monday, 3rd August, 2026 and end on Friday, 18th September, 2026
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Chief Registrar of the Court, B.O. Osawaru, Esq., with Ref. No. CR(4930/XX/11.
According to the statement, full judicial activities will resume on Monday, 21st September, 2026.
During the Annual Vacation, there shall be two (2) Vacation Judges in the State who will sit in the Benin Judicial Division to entertain only urgent Civil, Revenue and Criminal matters.
The release stated that:, Matters to be entertained shall be fresh matters of utmost urgency filed during the vacation and not connected with matters already pending in the Courts.The Vacation Judges are:
Hon. Justice A.T. Momodu of the Special Criminal Court 1, High Court of Justice, Benin City. His Lordship shall sit at the Special Criminal Court 1.
Hon. Justice Hassana O. Garuba who shall sit at High Court No. 12, Civil Division, High Court of Justice, Benin City.
Their Lordships are to hear and determine cases during the period of the vacation.Pending cases before regular Courts may, however, be heard with the leave of the Honourable Judge in charge of that Court and with the consent of learned Counsel to both parties.
