The Senator representing Edo north senatorial district at the National Assembly, Senator Francis Alimikhena has formally announced his defection from the All Progressive Congress, APC, to the main opposition People’s Democratic party, PDP.

In his letter announcing his defection which was read on the floor of the upper legislative during plenary by the Senate President, Senator Alimikhena wrote that his decision was as a result of the “continuing and multifaceted crisis that have bedeviled the APC”, especially in his Senatorial District, “that has created parallel executives which has undermined internal discipline, cohesion and focus.”

The Senator who is on second term at the Senate left the APC on the eve of party primaries for a third term ticket where he was to face his benefactor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, who later emerged unopposed candidate.

Unknown to many party members, Senator Alimikhena participated in what was termed repeat PDP primaries in Edo North organised by the faction loyal to the Edo State governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki.

He was later declared winner of what obviously was an arranged primary following the sudden withdrawal of the erstwhile winner.
