Esama 88th birthday:Edo NUJ Chairman, Alenkhe, leads Edo journalists on felicitation Visit

Comrade Festus Alenkhe, chairman of the Edo State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has led a delegation of Executives and Members of the Union on a courtesy visit to the Esama of Benin kingdom, Chief Dr Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion to felicitates with him on his 88th birthday celebration.

Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, also the father of the former Edo State governor, Mr. Lucky Igbinedion, is an accomplished business and media mogul with many successful forays .

In his short remarks before he presented the Union’s specially designed birthday card to the Esama, Comrade Alenkhe extolled the virtues of the celebrant and described him as a “worthy ambassador of the state”.

He also reeled off his giant strides in office, insisting he has been able to turn around the fortunes of the Union within a short spell, adding the goal of his team of dedicated and patriotic comrades is to take the Union to the next level of professional proficiency, accountability and strict adherence to the ethics of the job.

A delighted Esama of Benin lauded the leadership of the Union on its developmental strides and promised to continue to render both financial and moral support to the Union until its set goals are accomplished

In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the development of the media industry in the country, the state NUJ made him the life patron of the Union.

The visit, therefore, afforded the Union an opportunity to present a letter that expressively stated the renewal of Esama’s appointment as Life Patron.

The birthday celebration of the Esama is a week-long activity and will feature major cultural groups across the country showcasing their peculiar cultural dances and displays.

Other activities lined up to mark the 88th birthday celebration of the living legend include a dinner and church service which is to be climaxed with a dinner.
