The Edo State Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Hon. Nosa Adams, has disclosed that the Ministry has undertaken erosion and flood control interventions through the reactivation and rehabilitation of drainage schemes in four locations in Benin, the state capital,
The Commissioner made this known while presenting the Ministry’s achievements to journalists in Benin City.
The briefing is part of the ongoing press briefings organized by the Ministry of Information and Strategy to update Edo people on the activities of the Senator Monday Okpebholo administration*
Hon. Adams noted that the area around the Military Base Hospital, which previously experienced prolonged flooding whenever it rained, now drains within 10 minutes.
According to him, the drainage and retention scheme at the hospital has been reactivated and the project completed with significant government investment.
He also stated that Boundary Road has recorded similar improvement. The Commissioner explained that the road used to be impassable during heavy rainfall, forcing motorists to seek alternative routes. Following the reactivation and renovation of the retention pond in the area, floodwater now recedes in less than 30 minutes.
The Commissioner further disclosed that work is ongoing along Uselu-Lagos Road by S&T barrack.
He said the Ministry is currently creating an additional retention point inside the S&T Barracks as part of a major intervention in that axis.
He added that upon completion of work at the barracks, attention will shift to New Lagos Road to address the drainage pipe that cuts across it — a project that has attracted public interest.
