Edo PDP SWC denies knowledge of petition against Edo REC

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has denied knowledge of authoring any purported petition letter to the commission of police in the state seeking the arrest of the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Johnson Alalibo.

In a letter addressed the Mr. Abutu Yaro, the commissioner of police, signed by the Secretary of the PDP, Chief Hilary Otsu, the party recalled a petition dated 20th July 2022 upon which the police relied on to arrest the REC not to have emanated from the party,

The letter to the commission, dated 29th July 2022 read thus

“Our attention has been drawn to a story on social media, that our Party, PDP, has written a Petition to the Police accusing the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Johnson Alaliho Sinikiem, to be “thoroughly investigated, and the suspect charged to court” on allegations of forgery, etc”.

“We wish to distance our State Working Committee and State Executive, from this condemnable petition against INEC and the State REC, Dr. Sinikiem. To the best of our knowledge, INEC and the REC, Dr. Alalibo Sinikiem, were properly and duly communicated to, by the State Secretary, as enshrined in Section 5 (36) b of the PDP Constitution 2017, as amended. Furthermore, INEC/Dr. Sinikiem carried out their constitutional duties excellently.”……
