The umbrella body of women’s journalists in Nigeria, Edo state chapter under the auspies of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ, recently paid courtey visit to the Chairman of Orhionmwon Local Government Area , Hon. (Dcn) Newman Ugiagbe to congratulate him on his victory at the poll and commemoration of his 100 days in office.
The women’s journalists body led by her chairperson, comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan also congratulated the chairman on his belated appointment as the chairman of the umbrella body of local government chairmen , Association of Local Government of Nigeria, ALGON, Edo state chapter.
The Chairperson gave kudos to the council boss for having much to exhibits in his 100 days in office and sue for its sustenance.
She also commended the chairman’s programme on the health sector which includes free medical outreach, free eye surgeries, free recommended eye glasses and drugs, renovation of health centers and Immunization exercise across Orhionmwon .
Kudos was also given to the chairman for the provision of school chairs and desks to selected schools in the LGA, Oza primary school, Iduogo Primary School, Urhonigbe, renovation of Primary School in the 12 wards and perimeter fence of Okogbo Primary School archived positive development in the LGA.
Other projects which received commendations were the ongoing construction of legislative complex and renovations of council secretariat, launching of the official website and logo of Orhionmwon Council, electricity and solar system in partnership with multi-national electricity company.
The Council Boss, who was elated by the presence of the women journalists said journalists should do more in their reportage on the activities of the local government.
“We are saying we want to drive the dividend of democracy down to the people in the grassroot, we cannot do it ourselves, we need the media. In this administration today what the Governor has achieved, I think the media team are not doing enough, because majority of our people are not aware of the Governor achievements unless a few things, he is a man that does not believe in commissioning projects like some governors do, the media team are the people who will inform us about the Governor achievement, what he is doing and what he has done and about to do.
But for us at the local government level we want to replicate same in terms of infrastructural development, so every little step, I, take I want my people to see it, I want my people to know, that is the only way they can appreciate what you are doing.
I am looking forward to working with you all and appreciate you more for the gifts you brought that’s frame, is one of the best I have gotten so when I see the caliber of the person around me, I know that you will be one of them. If I was a woman, I would have join you people, but I am a man not a woman, so I say thank you so much and I look forward to us working together”
The highlights of the visit was the presentation of frame to the chairman.
