The Edo State Government has approved the upgrading of the Auchi Central Hospital to the status of a university teaching hospital.
With the elevation, the hospital will consequently serve as the satellite campus of the Edo State University, Uzairue, Etsako West local government area.
The announcement of the upgrade is contained in a notice signed by Mr. Festus Omiunu, Head of Administration, on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi.
The statement further disclosed the appointment of a Chief Medical Director (CMD) for the teaching hospital. He is Prof Idogun who has since resumed duty at the newly upgraded Teaching Hospital after a brief handing-over ceremony held within the premises of the hospital on Monday, November 28.

The statement stated, “Important notice: I am pleased to inform you all and indeed members of the public that Edo State government has approved and upgraded Auchi central hospital Auchi to Edo State University teaching hospital Auchi. Subsequently a new Chief medical director has been appointed in the person of Prof idogun. The new management team has assumed duties at the Edo State University teaching hospital Auchi. The taking over ceremony of the hospital was held on Monday 28th November, 2022. We are indeed grateful to Edo state government and the hardworking vice chancellor for working very hard to achieve the birth of Edo State University teaching hospital Auchi. God 🙏 will bless him for the efforts abundantly

Admittedly, the upgrade is a huge relief to the medical students who have had to endure the rigours of travellingt to Benin, almost daily, to make use of available facilities at the State Specialist Hospital for their practicals
Likewise, Edo North indigenes requiring urgent specialist medical care travel as far as Irrua, Esan, Edo Central district, along the tortuous Auchi- Ekpoma bad road to reach the Irrua Specialist Hospital for medical relief.
