The Edo State Government has taken steps to resolve the lingering chieftaincy dispute in Ikpeshi, Akoko Edo LGA, by returning to status quo and restoring recognition to Zaiki Luckman Odamah III as the traditional ruler of Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan.
The Monday Okpebholo administration had on resumption of office on 13th November, 2025, revoked the appointment of Zaiki Odamah as clan head and appointed Mr. Nicholas Odamah as Regent of the Clan.
In a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., dated 20th October 2026, said, “Following appeals from concerned indigenes of Akoko-Edo and the subsequent confirmation that the dispute concerning the traditional leadership of Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan was already before a competent court of law, the State Government has reviewed and rescinded its earlier decision.
”Consequently, the State Government hereby terminates the appointment of Mr. Nicholas Odamah as Regent of Ikpeshi/Egbegere Clan and restores the status quo ante his appointment.
”All security agencies have been duly notified of this development and directed to maintain peace, law and order as well as ensure the protection of lives and property in the affected communities.
”The Edo State Government remains committed to upholding fairness, justice and the rule of law, while preserving the State’s traditional institutions and values.
”All parties are therefore urged to remain calm, exercise restraint and allow the judicial process to run its course.”
