The Labour Party (LP) has announced that aspirants vying for the governorship position in the September election in Edo State will be required to pay N30 million for the nomination and expression of interest forms. The decision was made by the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC) during its meeting in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the NWC specified that interested aspirants should pay N5 million for the Expression of Interest form and N25 million for the Nomination form.

The sale and submission of these forms are scheduled to take place between January 25 and February 11, providing a window for potential candidates to express their interest and submit the required documents.

The statement outlined the approved fees, stating, “The NWC approved that the fees for Expression of Interest Form shall be N5,000,000.00, while the Nomination Form shall be N25,000,000.00.”

It further clarified that female aspirants are exempted from paying for the Expression of Interest form only.

Additionally, the NWC endorsed an Indirect Primary election process, involving Ward and Local Government congresses to elect the party’s standard-bearer.

The timeline includes February 14 for aspirant screening, February 22 for the primary election, and February 23 for resolving disputes or appeals arising from the primaries.*

The NWC expressed gratitude to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for carrying out its verification duty and commended the party’s leadership for adhering to INEC’s rules and regulations.
