AYOGWIRI CHIEFTAINCY CRISIS: CONCERNED INDIGENES FAULT OGIEINENI OVER INSTALLATION DESPITE PENDING COURT ORDER

Some concerned people of Ayogwiri in Uzairue Kingdom, Etsako West LGA, have expressed misgivings over what they described as the “hasty” installation of Bello Inaboya as Community Head by the Paramount Ruler, HRH Alhaji Kadiri Omogbai, despite a subsisting court order to halt the process pending the outcome of litigation.
The heir apparent to the Ayogwiri throne, Amidu Braimah, had on June 9, 2026, filed a writ of summons at the High Court of Justice, Auchi in Suit No. HAR/6/2026.
Defendants in the suit include: Bello Braimah Inaboya; HRH Alhaji Kadiri Omogbai, Ogieneni of Uzairue; Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Edo State; Attorney General of Edo State; and the Governor of Edo State.
According to the writ of summons, all parties were directed to maintain the status quo until otherwise ordered by the court.
It was alleged that while court papers were served on the Ogieneni on a Wednesday morning, he went ahead on Sunday to crown Bello Inaboya in the absence of the elders of the community.
It was further gathered that the court has fixed July 27, 2026, for hearing of the matter.
Amidu Inaboya is the first son of the late Community Head of Ayogwiri, Alhaji Braimah Inaboya, while Bello Inaboya is a younger sibling.
The Ogieneni had earlier stated that there was disagreement within the Inaboya royal family over who should succeed the late community head.
According to him, although the four elders of the community were divided between Inaboya Amidu and Bello Inaboya, the Inaboya family eventually presented Bello Inaboya as its unanimous choice after consultations.
