The state assembly election in virtually all of the polling units in Auchi, Etsako West headquarters, which started on a peaceful note was nearly disrupted by hired political thugs.

Reports reaching our situations room from Ward 3, Auchi, alleged that some PDP leaders who were uncomfortable with the voting pattern “imported” the thugs to disrupt and cart away the ballot boxes and other sensitive materials being used by INEC for the conduct of the election

Polling unit 12 in Ward 3, is one of the voting centers at Ekhei Primary School, Auchi. The polling unit is situated along the popular Poly Road.

The thugs were said to have invaded PU 12 with all sorts of dangerous weapons thereby creating commotion among the voters.

However, a voter, who is also the unit 12 chairman for the All Progressive Congress APC, Mr. Audu Ebig Braimoh, was said to have challenged the thugs and prevented them from completely disrupting the ongoing process.

The brave Braimoh, however, sustained some injuries while dragging the ballot boxes with the armed thugs as well as making sure they did not escape with it, before the arrival of the security agents.

For his act of bravery, Mr. Braimoh was celebrated by the other voters for putting up a spirited effort to prevent the thugs from escaping with the ballot boxes.

Sadly, the thugs beat a quick retreat before the police arrived on the scene. No arrests were made.
