The newly elected Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku has becomes the second person from Owan West LGA to be made a Speaker.

There was no opposition against the nomination of the Rt. Hon. Agbebaku as Speaker of the 8th Assembly. He had a roller-coaster ride to the mantle of leadership.

Having made his first stint in the House in 2007 under the Peoples Democratic party PDP platform,

The man who holds the distinguished honour of being the first Owan person who coincidentally also from Owan West to be elected Speaker was the late Hon. Benson Alegbe.

The late Benson Alegbe, a lawyer, represented the Owan in the then Bendel State House of Assembly, under the platform of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, led by the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

At the dawn of the Fourth Republic, he joined the PDP on whose platform he contested and won the election to represent the Owan federal constituency at the House of Representatives between 1999.
