The African Democratic Congress, ADC, candidate for Etsako Federal Constituency, Chief Braimah Oshiomah Yakubu, popularly known as ‘De-General’, has decried the worsening state of insecurity in Nigeria, warning that schools, farms, and communities have become targets of criminal gangs.
In an emotional message to his constituents titled _“Distress Call From De-General On The State of Security In Nigeria”_, Yakubu said kidnappers now target schools with “alarming boldness and little resistance,” turning places of learning into “theatres of fear.”
“My dear people of Etsako, Edo State, and Nigeria at large, I speak today not in celebration, but with deep pain, urgency, and a heavy heart,” he wrote.
The ADC candidate lamented that farmers can no longer access their lands, communities live in constant fear, and students go to school unsure if they will return home. He questioned the gap between government assurances and the realities on ground.
“What is the reality, and what is mere rhetoric? Are these repeated attacks a coincidence—or a clear sign that those entrusted with our security are losing control?” Yakubu asked.
He called for the immediate declaration of a _State of Emergency on security across the nation_, stressing that the crisis has gone beyond routine response.
“This is not about politics. This is about survival,” he said. “We must reevaluate and overhaul our current security architecture, hold those responsible for failures accountable, deploy real, effective strategies—not propaganda—and restore confidence in the safety of lives and property.”
Yakubu urged Nigerians, especially the people of Etsako, to raise their voices “not in fear, but in unity and firm demand for change.”
“Enough is enough. We cannot surrender our land, our children, and our future to fear. This is a call to action. This is a call for responsibility. This is a call for Nigeria to rise again,” he concluded.
The statement comes amid growing public concern over kidnapping and attacks on schools and highways across several states.
