The Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has denounced a viral video showing male students beating a peer at Igbinedion Education Centre, Benin City, calling the attack “deeply troubling and completely unacceptable.”
In a statement, Women Affairs Commissioner Hon. (Mrs.) Eugenia Abdallah said ministry officials are engaging school management and relevant authorities to investigate the incident and ensure action under child protection laws and school regulations.
“Violence and bullying undermine the values of respect, safety and dignity that schools must uphold,” the ministry said in a statement Thursday, stressing that educational institutions should remain safe spaces for learning and growth.
The ministry urged parents, guardians, administrators and the wider community to reinforce discipline, empathy and respect among young people, warning that bullying must never be tolerated.
Reaffirming its commitment to child rights and welfare, the ministry pledged continued collaboration with agencies to secure justice, accountability and prevention of similar incidents across Edo State.
