Three individuals suspected of kidnapping a medical doctor, Dr. Abu Babatunde, and killing his younger brother in Auchi, Edo State, were arraigned before a High Court in Auchi on Monday.
The suspects, apprehended in February 2026 after visiting the doctor’s hospital for medical treatment for their child, were escorted to court under tight security.
The case was adjourned to March 23, 2026, for further proceedings, marking a significant step in the legal process.
Authorities continue investigations as the court process unfolds .
Babatunde and his younger brother were abducted from their residence in Auchi on January 2, 2026. The younger brother was later found dead. Dr. Babatunde was released after a ransom of N50 million was reportedly paid.
Meanwhile, residents of Auchi, took to the streets to protest the recent wave of kidnappings, expressing frustration over the disruption of normal life and fear among professionals, especially doctors.
They demanded that authorities bring perpetrators to justice and intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.
The start of the trial of kidnap suspects has raised hopes for justice and a return to normalcy in the area .
