Ayogwiri Grammar School Ayogwiri in Uzairue Kingdom, Etsako West of Edo State, has marked a significant milestone – 50 years of providing quality education to students from Edo State and beyond.
The remarkable event brought together alumni, teachers, and community members to commemorate the significant occasion.
The grammar school which is first and remains the only government secondary school in the community was founded in 1975 by the Bendel State Government under the then military Governor, late General Samuel Ogbemudia,.
According to the president of the old students Association, Mr Joseph Oruonomhe, said during a chat that Ayogwiri Grammar School has come a long way. From humble beginning, it has grown into a reputable institution, producing successful individuals who have made their mark in Nigeria and beyond.
He commended the the pioneering principal of the school, Mr. Jonathan Oziegbe, and some of the first teachers, Mr. Peter I. Imoesi and H.A. Oshomah for playing a crucial role in shaping the school’s foundation. The Golden Jubilee celebration, he said is a testament to the school’s enduring legacy.
The school’s golden jubilee celebration featured various events, including: A road show and sensitization programme to launch the 50th anniversary. A courtesy visit to the Chairman of Etsako West Local Government, novelty match and a lecture.
These events showcased the school’s spirit, community engagement, and academic excellence.
The main event of the ceremony took place on the 1st of November with the commissioning of projects and launching of N100 million development fund under chairmanship of Alhaji Abdul Hamid Baba Saliu. aka Baba Petrol who is said to be an old boy of the school.
The proceed of the fund raising is geared towards provision of construction of modern computer laboratory, borehole, renovation of Admin Block, six modern toilet facilities, sports facilities and scholarship.
The anniversary was rounded up with a gala night and a thanksgiving mass.
