‎Bitter End: Auchi Seminarian Freed, Another Found Dead

‎The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has announced a bittersweet development regarding the seminarians kidnapped from the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi, Agenebode.


‎According to the Diocese, Joshua Aleobu, one of the abducted seminarians, regained his freedom on November 4, 2025. However, it was also confirmed that Emmanuel Alabi, another seminarian, tragically lost his life during the ordeal



‎The statement was issued by Rev. Fr. Linus Imoedemhe, Assistant Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Auchi.




‎The Bishop of Auchi Diocese also urged political leaders to prioritize citizens’ safety and well-being over political ambitions, especially with the 2027 elections approaching, rather than turning a blind eye to worsening insecurity.


‎The Diocese similarly  called on the faithful and people of goodwill to join in prayer for the repose of Emmanuel Alabi’s soul, Peace in the land, Healing for the affected and Security for all citizens

‎The Diocese he said  remains committed to faith, peace, and justice, trusting in God’s mercy to comfort the bereaved family, the seminary community, and all affected, with a prayer for the souls of the faithful departed to rest in peace.



‎The Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Ivianokpodi was attacked

‎While Joshua Aleobua has been freed, Japhet Jesse’s status remains unclear, and Emmanuel Alabi tragically lost his life during the ordeal.
