Residents Urge Akokhia, Lecky to Raise Constituency’s Issues in Parliament

Residents of Etsako West Local Government Area are expressing disappointment with their representatives in the Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ganiyu Akokhia and Hon. Lecky Hussein for not adequately representing their constituents’ interests on the floor.

Hon. Lecky represents Etsako West constituency one which includes Auchi, Agbede, Awain, and Jagbe, while Hon. Ganiyu Akokhia represents constituency 2 which is make up of Uzairue and South Ibie.

Residents are disappointed that these lawmakers haven’t spoken up on key issues affecting their areas, such as gully erosion and kidnappings. They’re calling on the lawmakers to do more to represent their constituents’ interests in the Edo State House of Assembly.

They argue that one of the key roles of legislators is to bring important matters to the attention of the House and relevant authorities, facilitating cross-pollination of ideas and solutions.

The residents cite the example of previous lawmakers from the area, such as Hon. Lukman Mohammed, Philip Shaibu, and Abdulahi Imogabe Late Zakawanu Garuba , who were known for effectively utilizing parliamentary platforms to raise important issues affecting their constituency.

They point to the recent visit of Edo Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to Auchi and Ayogwiri in Uzairue clan, Etsako West LGA, where he assessed the gully erosion affecting the community.

The governor’s attention was drawn to the issue after locals staged demonstrations on several occasions, highlighting the severity of the problem.

The residents felt bad that their lawmakers, Hons. Lecky and Akokhia never raised the raised the issue on the floor of the Edo State House of Assembly.

The residents urge Hon. Akokhia and Hon. Lecky. to be more proactive in representing their constituents’ interests and addressing the challenges facing Etsako West LGA.
