The late Ambassador Aziz Garuba was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Abuja, despite a disagreement over the burial location.
The service of songs, interment and reception took place on July 23rd.
His eldest son, Alhaji Abdul Rasak Garuba, wanted him buried in Auchi, his hometown, as it was his expressed wish. However, Mrs. Silvia Chika Garuba, the late Ambassador’s youngest wife, planned to bury him in Abuja.
The disagreement between Alhaji Abdul Rasak Garuba and Mrs. Silvia Chika Garuba led to a court order obtained by the first Son to prevent the burial in Abuja.
The court order was vacated due to being instituted at the wrong court, allowing the burial to proceed in Abuja.
The Auchi community was not represented at the burial ceremony
The burial proceeded in Abuja, despite the disagreement and the absence of the Auchi community.
Ambassador Garuba passed away on June 4 in Abuja at the age of 83 .
