On August 12, Edo north district will stand still to commemorate the birthday of Senator Yisa Braimoh of Ihievbe in Owan East LGA of Edo North.
At 82, he defies age and remains actively engaged in public service. His birthday is not only a personal milestone but also a day to honour his late mother, with whom he shares the same birth date.
Senator Braimoh is a remarkable figure, excelling as an engineer, resource manager ,hotelier, community leader, and philanthropist.
His impact on countless lives through his charitable work solidifies his status as a living legend.
Sen Braimoh’s life journey is filled with trials and triumphs. His climb to success was marked by hard work and sacrifices.
Despite not being born into privilege , he was determined to make something out of his life. Every setback only made him stronger. This resilient spirit has guided him in both business and politics.
Today, he stands as the Owan Clan PDP leader, remaining loyal to the party since he became a bonafide member in 1999 .
While others switched allegiances for personal gain, Sen Braimoh remained steadfast. The PDP is his home, and he played a significant part in building it.
As the first Owan Clan indigene so far to represent the Edo North district in the Senate and the Seriki Musulumi of Afenmai land, Sen Braimoh has earned numerous administrative , political and religious accolades throughout his career.
Prominent Edo State citizens, led by Gov Godwin Obaseki, will gather at Sen. Braimoh’s country home in Ihievbe, Owan East , to celebrate a man who embodies the essence of Owan politics.
Undoubtedly, Sen Braimoh is more fortunate than many of his peers. With a stable family and accomplished children , he can attribute his longevity and good health to his gratitude to Allah.
Braimoh was educated as an engineer and resource manager variously at the University of Western Ontario, Ontario Canada (1982), Cranefield Institute of Technology, Cranfield, UK (1981) , Engineering College, Penzance, Cornwall UK (1962 -1965 and 1969-1970) and Stanford University , Carlifonia , USA ( 2010 ) .
Before veering into politics in the late 80’s Senator Braimoh had an enviable career in the civil , public and international services . He was a Director of Communications Engineering for Nigeria Airways (1977 -1983 ) and Nairobi-based Regional Director (East & West Africa) for SITA Worldwide Airlines Organisation ( 1986-1990) .
Before his election to the Senate in 2007 , he was Edo State NRC Deputy Governor Candidate in 1991, Special Adviser to the Minister of Transport and Aviation (1993), Special Adviser to the Minister of Power and Steel (1994), Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Maritime Authority (2000) and Chairman of the Governing Board of NYSC (2005-2007). He also represented the South South geographical zone at the 2014 National Conference .
A prominent member of the prestigious Lagos Ikoyi Club and Lagos Island Club , Senator (Engr) Yisa Braimoh holds many strategic traditional chieftaincy titles , including the Osiozokhai of Auchi Kingdom , the Uzoyare of Emai Land and the Hippopotamus of Ihievbe Kingdom , just to name a few .
