The planned nationwide protest against hunger and bad governance has been receiving widespread support from various groups and individuals.
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has decided to suspend its ongoing statewide campaign in solidarity with the protesters.
This decision was announced in a press release signed by the Director General of the Edo PDP Gubernatorial Campaign Council, Hon. Mathew Iduoriyekemwen.
The party expressed its solidarity with the Nigerian people in their struggle to end bad governance imposed on the masses by the APC-controlled federal government.
The protest is scheduled to begin on Thursday, August 1 at designated points across the country.
The recent press release by the Edo PDP acknowledged the suffering of the Nigerian people and squarely placed the blame on the APC-controlled federal government, which it described as “visionless and uncaring.”
The statement further expressed deep concern about the excruciating pains Nigerians have endured under the APC. In an act of solidarity with the people, the Edo PDP has decided to suspend its ongoing statewide campaign until further notice.
The statement reads: “In view of the imminent ten-day protest against hunger and pain occasioned by the visionless and uncaring APC administration, we, the PDP in Edo State are constrained to suspend our ongoing statewide campaign til further notice. This is our own modest show of solidarity with the pauperized Nigerian people.
All attention is now on the federal government to see how it plans to handle the aftermath of the protest.
