The recent decision by the member representing Etsako Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. Anamero Sunday Dekeri, to embark on massive renovation of schools less than three months to his re-election bid has generated mixed reactions.
Hon. Anamero, popularly known as Danco, a first-term member of the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Okpella axis in Etsako East, is seeking a second term on his party’s ballot.
The lawmaker, through his aides and loyalists, released a list of schools across the three local government areas in the federal constituency slated for renovation in what they described as “Development in Action.”
According to them, the lawmaker considers education as one of the most important foundations for community development, hence his decision to secure approval for the renovation and rehabilitation of 11 schools across Etsako East, Etsako West and Etsako Central LGAs.
The intervention, which includes the construction of classroom blocks and provision of desks, is said to be part of a broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure across the constituency.
The approved projects, they noted, are spread across different wards and communities, reflecting a constituency-wide approach to development.
However, some constituents have dismissed the move as a political gimmick to secure a second term, expressing fears that the projects may be abandoned after the elections.
Others argued that the number of dilapidated schools in the area remains alarming, considering the number of ministers, senators and other high-profile political office holders from the axis.
The question on many lips is whether Hon. Dekeri is only waking up to his responsibilities because of strong opposition now challenging his re-election bid.
