The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has inaugurated its State Campaign Council ahead of the January 2027 general elections.
The inauguration ceremony, which attracted political heavyweights and dignitaries across the state, was held in Benin City on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The Council is charged with the responsibility of leading the party’s campaign activities across the state.
For the Edo North axis, the campaign will be coordinated by Chief AbdulGaniyu Lawani, aka Abu millionaire and Hon. Zibiri Mohammed, who will serve as Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator respectively.
Chief Lawani, who hails from the Owan axis of the district and doubles as the APC leader in Edo North, will work with Hon. Zibiri to secure victory for the party in the 2027 polls.
Lawani will find a perfect match in Hon. Zibiri, who will not only make his assignment of securing victory for President Tinubu and other APC candidates easy, but also ensure it comes with a wide margin in Edo North.
Zibiri hails from Ikabigbo, a community fast becoming a political hub in Etsako, and was a chairmanship aspirant in Etsako West Local Government Area.
He is a former Speaker of the Etsako West Legislative Council and former Supervisory Councillor for Education, and has been involved in mobilising support for the party in previous elections.
As regards his mastery of political mobilisation, he served as the Etsako West LGA APC Deputy Coordinator during the 2024 governorship campaign, where the party reportedly polled over 32,000 votes for the APC and Governor Monday Okpebholo, said to be the highest number of votes the local government has ever produced in a governorship election in the state.
Political observers have described Zibiri’s appointment as recognition of his leadership and mobilisation qualities, intellectual capacity and administrative experience in previous political engagements with the APC.
They described his appointment as Deputy Campaign Coordinator as a testament to his loyalty and accomplishments in previous assignments given to him by the party.
In congratulatory messages following his inauguration, party chieftains, youths, friends and ward leaders expressed confidence in his ability to deliver on the assignment.
Speaking with journalists, Hon. Zibiri expressed gratitude to the leadership of the party for the confidence reposed in him and for finding him worthy to serve in that capacity.
He pledged his unflinching loyalty and commitment towards ensuring that the APC records a resounding victory across Edo North in the 2027 general elections.
