‎AGENEBODE – The Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Ekpeson Ekpetika, has demonstrated a rare gesture of appreciation by gifting five outgoing ward councillors a total sum of ₦12.5 million.

‎The beneficiaries are councillors who were unable to secure a return ticket to the Legislative Arm of the Council following the just-concluded Local Government elections in the state.

‎The cash gift, which amounts to ₦2.5 million for each of the five councillors, is seen as a parting package to appreciate their service and commitment while in office.

‎Sources within the Council disclosed that the gesture was largely facilitated by the Speaker of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Lucky Isah Obado, who reportedly intervened on behalf of his colleagues.

‎According to insiders, the Speaker played a key role in appealing to the Chairman to recognize the contributions of the outgoing lawmakers despite their electoral loss.

‎The development has generated positive reactions across the Local Government Area, with many describing it as remarkable and unprecedented.

‎Stakeholders and observers noted that the act is the first of its kind in the history of Etsako East Local Government Area.

‎They argued that it is uncommon for political office holders to be appreciated with such a huge financial package after failing to secure re-election.

‎Sources close to the Chairman said the gesture was borne out of his desire to encourage loyalty, dedication, and service, and to show that loyalty to the system is rewarded.

‎The beneficiaries, on their part, have expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman and the Speaker for the kind gesture, describing it as a morale booster even in the face of their electoral setback.
