Two prominent indigenes of Auchi in Etsako West Local Government Area, Bawa Mohammed and Braimoh Oshomah Yakubu, will contest the House of Representatives seat for Etsako Federal Constituency in the National Assembly elections scheduled for January 2027.
Their names appeared on the list uploaded on the the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal on the platforms of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, and the African Democratic Congress, ADC, respectively.
Bawa Mohammed, who was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, before his defection to the ADC, participated in the 2023 National Assembly party primaries where he recorded a strong showing.
He has been a leading voice in the agitation for the Etsako Federal Constituency seat to be in Auchi, insisting that “it is our due.”
Etsako Federal constituency seat is presently occupied by Hon Dekeri Anamero from Okpella community, Etsako East Local Government of Edo State on the platform of the All Progressive Congress.
On his part, Braimoh Oshomah Yakubu of the ADC, fondly called “De-General” by admirers, hails from Akpekpe Quarters in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
Braimoh, a trained Engineer in the Engineering Department of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, where he also gained early political exposure while serving as Director of Welfare in the Student Union Government.
He began his political career in the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, where he was known for his policy contributions.
Braimoh later joined the coalition ADC, citing the need to “rescue Nigeria from the mismanagement of the economy by the Bola Tinubu-led APC administration.”
“Considering the difficult times Nigerians are going through under three years of the Tinubu administration, it will be worse if allowed to continue. Hence, the ADC, with the support of Nigerians, will replace the administration through democratic means,” he said.
On the home front, Braimoh aligned with his kinsmen who alleged marginalization of Auchi in the political arena.
“Auchi needs a vibrant voice to speak for them, not a bench warmer,” he added.
