The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has finally berthed in Edo State, just weeks after its launch in Abuja.
Unveiled last month as the definitive opposition political party, the ADC is a powerful coalition of various political entities determined to what they termed to unseat the underperforming APC-controlled federal government.
Prominent political leaders from opposition parties, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, El Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, Sen David Mark, Sule Lamido, and others, have declared that the days of the ruling APC are numbered, resolving to ensure they are voted out by 2027.
Since its inception, the ADC has actively intensified its efforts, opening state chapters with strategic momentum.
The recent unveiling of the party’s Edo State chapter was marked by an unprecedented display of political clout and flair.
This event was a bold statement, heralding the significant changes to come as we approach 2027.
The inaugural meeting took place at the Benin residence of Chief Odigie Oyegun, a former governor of Edo and past National Chairman of the APC.
A key resolution from the meeting was the formation of two Strategic Committees tasked with addressing critical issues essential for the party’s robust foundation in the state.
They are Funds raising committee headed by Senator Yisa Braimoh and the Membership Registrations and Mobilisations committee headed by Dr. Isaiah Osifoh
Other prominent figures in attendance included Sen Ehigie Uzamere, Sen Roland Owie, S, Prof Osaretin Osunbor, Mr Osayuki Asemota, and more.
The most striking aspect of this meeting was its ability to draw key political representatives from all three senatorial districts, each with different party affiliations.
Their strong presence undoubtedly sent tremors through the ranks of the ruling Edo APC, signalling that the ADC is fully prepared to contest and reclaim political power from the APC.
After the Benin meeting ,a formidable five-man fundraising strategic committee, led by Sen Yisa Braimoh was inaugurated .
The strategic committee includes influential members such as Prof Osunbor, Sen Uzamere, Mrs Osayuki Asemota, and the renowned Chief Ken Imasuagbon, famously known as the rice man.
Chief Oyegun inaugurated the sub-committee and tasked them with the crucial responsibility of developing robust frameworks to raise funds for the party in preparation for the 2027 election.
Observers believe that Sen Braimoh is best suited for the job
He is one of the most respected Edo North political figures and is expected to draw on his vast experience and clout to assist the party raise an enormous war chest for the upcoming elections
Sen Braimoh also represented the Edo North district in the Senate from 2007 to 2011.
As a matter of fact, the selection of the immensely popular Owan politician for such a pivotal role was anticipated by those familiar with his capabilities.
The ADC is scheduled to reconvene in a fortnight to solidify its strategic plans, aiming to penetrate and firmly establish its presence in Edo politics.
