Uzairue clan, the host community of the Edo State University Uzairue is determined to ensure that the next Vice Chancellor of the state-owned university is one of their own.
To achieve this, the clan has activated the dragnet aimed at making a case for it to produce the University’s.next Vice chancellor
Borderline News 24 learned that the clan is planning to leverage the historical fact that the University was established in Iyamho by its kinsman and a former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who currently represents the Edo North district in the Senate.
Some opinion moulders in the clan also believe that the time is right to have one of their own at the helm of the University.
Currently, the university is being led by an Acting Vice Chancellor while the process of selecting a substantive Vice-Chancellor is underway.
The first Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, hailed from Etsako East and completed the full statutory eight-year term.
A source disclosed that the community is not taking any chances at all in ensuring that it was able to have its way
In that regard, it is said to have opened a channel of communication with some potentially qualified Uzairue candidates to apply for the prestigious position.
The Uzairue clan boasts of several distinguished professors across various fields at major universities throughout the country, many of whom would be well-qualified for the role.
However, it remains uncertain whether any of them have officially entered the race to fill the vacant position.
