President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshuffled his cabinet immediately after returning from a two-week working holiday overseas.

The reshuffling exercise resulted in the departure of five serving ministers from the cabinet, as well as the merging and scrapping of some ministries and departments.

Ministers were also reassigned to newly created ministries.

One of the affected officials is the Minister of the Niger Delta Affairs Ministry, Hon Abubakar Momoh., the Edo the Edo state representatives at the federal executive council.

He has been moved to the newly created Ministry of Regional Development.

As a result of the reshuffle, the Niger Delta Ministry ceases to exist and has been replaced by the newly created Ministry of Regional Development.

This new ministry will oversee regional commissions such as the South West Development Commission, the North West Development Commission, the North East Development Commission, and the South East Development Commission.

Presidential approval for the reshuffling was obtained at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting, which was attended by the President.

As a result of the reorganization, Hon Momoh’s portfolio has expanded. While he previously oversaw the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), he will now be responsible for the activities of four regional commissions across the country.

Many political observers believe that the reshuffling was long overdue. They also believe that the recent exercise will help reinvigorate the governance of the country.
