A final nail was put in the coffin of those who had hoped that Edo State would produce two ministers in the President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet
Their hopes were finally dashed with the presentation of the second batch of the ministerial list to the Senate President yesterday by the Chief of Staff (CoS) to the President.
The list contained 19 ministerial nominees thus bringing the total to 47. This number represents an unprecedented record in the number of nominated ministers since the advent of democratic rule in 1999.
Former President Buhari gave Edo State two ministerial slots during his administration. Edo North and Edo South shared the two slots
Expectations were, therefore, rife that President Tinubu would either retain or up the number of ministerial slots allocated to Edo State, but all hope seem to have faded with the presentation of the second batch of ministerial nominees.
Hon. Abubakar Momoh, therefore, remains the sole ministerial nominee from Edo State. The former two-term member of the House of Representatives has been screened by the Senate and currently waiting to be confirmed and his ministerial portfolio revealed to resume work.
While the waiting game continues, the average Edo citizen is, however, eager to know how the relevant ministries the President intends to deploy the members of his cabinet.
The expectation now is that the sole Edo State representative would be posted to a visible and viable ministry where he can make a meaningful impact, especially given the deplorable condition of most federal roads in the state
