There is escalating tension in the South Ibie Kingdom in the Etsako West council area as the Umoru family prepares for the coronation of their son, Alhaji Inusa Umoru, as the Aidonogie of the South Ibie Kingdom.
There has been a long-standing legal dispute over the succession to the traditional throne of the community, with no clear legal victory for either side in over 20 years.
Despite the legal dispute, the Umoru family has scheduled the coronation of the new Aidonogie for Friday, October 25.
The current legal battle involves the Umoru family and the dethroned monarch, Oba Kelvin Danesi.
The recent appointment of Alhaji Inusa Umoru as the Aidonogie of the South Ibie Kingdom by the Edo State government caused unrest in certain quarters of the community.
To prevent a breakdown of law and order, it was gathered that the Edo police command invited both parties to a peace meeting, making sure that the invitation was extended to both camps in the dispute to avoid accusations that it was supporting any of the parties.
Supporters of the dethroned Oba Danesi claim the appointment was politically motivated.
This situation led to a divided community with two opposing camps, each holding steadfastly to its views.
Credible sources, however, told Borderline News 24 that preparations for the coronation have reached an advanced stage.
The source further disclosed that prominent Edo North citizens regardless of their political leaning have been invited to grace the coronation
The source added that the arrangements did not in any way or form prevent the police from continuing with its ongoing efforts at , peace building
